One of those things used to be a bushing. That’s what happens when your engine oil leak seeps into 40 year old rubber bushings.
Here’s how you remove one of the nuts holding the lower A-arm on. It’s conveniently located under the battery tray. Fortunately the tray has a hole in it just for the purpose of sticking a long socket extension through. I also had to replace the brake hose on that side, which is retained by a nut also under the battery tray, and you’re supposed to be able to do this through a tiny hole in the inner fender. IT’S NOT EASY.
